Modular DS alternative

A Modular DS alternative for plugin updates and backups is a different product than this. RetainerProof replaces the client report, not the dashboard. Use it when the site should not need their plugin, or when the site is not WordPress.

Modular DS, read on 20 October 2026, sells scheduled reports on every plan, from Freelance at €16 or $19 a month. The comparison with prices is RetainerProof vs Modular DS. This page is what you give up.

The comparison

You leave behindStill true on the report
Backups, storage, and restoreNo backup product here. Do not type a success rate you did not read
Safe updates and Update CopilotThe work line can say what changed, in the client’s words
Uptime at 5 or 2 minutes on higher cards15 minutes by default, or 30 seconds if you set it. One location
Security and vulnerability analysisNot a scan. Certificate date and domain date only
A report logo swap on Business or EnterpriseStudio and Agency remove the RetainerProof link. Your name leads every plan

When to stay

Stay if the dashboard is how the month gets done. Their help article on scheduled reports says a task you add in the period can land in the report, and the email can carry a report link. That is a finished reporting workflow inside the suite. I would not throw it out for a page that cannot see the update.

When this is the alternative

Move the letter when the client roster includes a site Modular DS cannot attach, or when you do not want a maintenance plugin in their plugin list. The client gets a secret link. The status page, if you turn it on, is public and thinner: no work log, no alert address, no secret report URL.

Plans are Starter at $9/month for up to 5 sites, Studio at $29/month for up to 25 sites, and Agency at $79/month for up to 100 sites. Studio is the plan marked recommended when it is for sale. Starter, including a trial, keeps a small Powered by RetainerProof link on the client digest and the public status page. Studio and Agency remove that link. Prices are on the pricing page.

FAQ

Is RetainerProof cheaper than Modular DS?

Studio is $29 a month for up to 25 sites. Their Starter card was €34 or $40 a month for 35 sites, and it includes the maintenance suite. Cheap is the wrong axis. The products do different jobs.

Can I import Modular DS tasks?

No. You write the line, or you post a line to the API. I will not reconstruct their task manager.

What should the line say?

The outcome. “Restored the contact form. It sends again.” The plugin version can stay in the dashboard.
