Comparison
WP Umbrella alternative
RetainerProof is a WP Umbrella alternative for the client report, and only for that. It will not update WordPress, it will not store a backup, and it will not put a plugin on the site. If those are the jobs you are leaving, this is the wrong alternative.
WP Umbrella’s own pricing page, read on 20 October 2026, is a per-site care platform at €1.99 or $2.19 a month, with white-label reports included. The side-by-side is RetainerProof vs WP Umbrella. This page is the “what do I lose” version.
The comparison
Their white-label page says you can hide the plugin with a line in the theme functions.php, and send reports with your contact details and no mention of WP Umbrella. That is a real feature. Hiding a plugin is not the same as never installing one. Some clients should not have a plugin from the care tool at all. That is the case I am for.
| If you need | WP Umbrella | RetainerProof |
|---|---|---|
| Safe updates and rollback | Listed on the pricing page | Not this product |
| Backups | Daily, weekly, and monthly in the base price. Hourly is an add-on | Not this product |
| A report with your name on it | Included. Email and PDF. Custom work plus automatic maintenance data | Secret link. You write the work. PDF of the same page |
| A public status page | I did not treat their uptime alerts as a client status page | One per site, optional. Current state and 90 days of incidents. No work log |
| Webflow, Shopify, or a custom app | The pages I read are WordPress care | Any public URL |
When to stay with WP Umbrella
Stay if the retainer you sell is the WordPress labor. Their report is built to explain that labor, including work you add by hand. Replacing the whole platform with a page that cannot update a plugin will make the next outage your problem in a worse way.
When RetainerProof is the alternative
Switch the letter, not the labor. The client opens one link. The top is the outcome. Under it is whether the homepage was up, and when the certificate and domain expire. A Lighthouse snapshot can sit there. It is a mobile snapshot, not a security audit.
You can post the work line from a script, or from n8n or Zapier as an HTTP request. There is no dedicated node. The client still sees the same page. In the app that page is called a digest. Call it the report when you send it.
Plans are Starter at $9/month for up to 5 sites, Studio at $29/month for up to 25 sites, and Agency at $79/month for up to 100 sites. Studio is the plan marked recommended when it is for sale. Starter, including a trial, keeps a small Powered by RetainerProof link on the client digest and the public status page. Studio and Agency remove that link. Prices are on the pricing page.
FAQ
What do I lose if I leave WP Umbrella for this?
Updates, backups, vulnerability monitoring, PHP error tracking, and the plugin. You keep a client page. You do not keep a maintenance suite.
Is there a plugin to hide?
No. RetainerProof never installs one. The tradeoff is that it cannot see inside WordPress.
What does the client log into?
Nothing. You send a secret link. Do not publish that URL, and do not put it in a sitemap.
